Ensemble Éclat is a Montréal-based contemporary music ensemble bringing together fifteen of the city’s most promising emerging performers. Dedicated to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, Éclat places new creation, mixed music and interdisciplinary collaboration at the heart of its artistic practice.

Known for immersive, boldly conceived performances, the ensemble explores the meeting points between acoustic instruments, electronics, digital media and other artistic disciplines, developing new ways of experiencing contemporary chamber music. Alongside major works of the international repertoire, Éclat champions a new generation of composers through commissions, premieres and close composer-performer collaboration.

Since its founding, Ensemble Éclat has quickly established a distinctive presence in Québec’s new-music scene. Its projects have been presented by the SMCQ and Le Vivier and developed in partnership with organizations including the Centre d’expérimentation musicale and IRCAM in Paris, where the ensemble undertook a residency devoted to electroacoustic and multimedia performance. Recent projects include Broken Spaces, an immersive production combining instrumental and electronic music with digital visuals, and Carte blanche à la relève, a program of six world premieres presented as part of the SMCQ’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

Under the artistic and musical direction of Charles-Éric Fontaine, Ensemble Éclat represents an emerging generation of artists expanding the possibilities of contemporary music through technological experimentation, ambitious creation and immersive performance.
