Relève en concert II : ensemble Wapiti présente « For John Cage » de Feldman
“For John Cage”, by Morton Feldman, is no ordinary listening experience. This work of art, with its duration of seventy-five minutes, invites performer and listener alike to experience in full every gesture and musical moment as they are slowly and tranquilly woven together. Daniel Añez and Geneviève Liboiron, who share many of Feldman’s sensibilities regarding music and its relation to art and society, describe “For John Cage” as a beautiful contradiction: while the audience experiences an absence of pulse, rhythm and time, the performers must dedicate extreme care and precision in order to recreate every subtle musical detail.
