Jonathan Crow & Andrew Wan : Rencontres virtuoses

co-presented by the Groupe Le Vivier

Tickets available here

The concertmasters of Canada’s two leading symphony orchestras celebrate their friendship in a concert of virtuosic duets. Jonathan Crow (current concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and former concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony) and Andrew Wan (current concertmaster of the OSM) join forces to tell the story of the violin-duet idiom in the 20th and 21st centuries, beginning with Schnittke and Prokofiev, through Bartok, Berio and Takemitsu, and on to present-day Quebec with commissions from Michael Oesterle and Maxime McKinley.

 Programme:

Béla Bartók – excerpts from 44 Duos for two violons

Toru Takemitsu – Rocking Mirror Daybreak

Michael Oesterle – Eulerian Dances world premiere (commissioned by Innovations en concert with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts)

Alfred Schnittke – Moz-Art

Maxime McKinley – Sept proximités world premiere (commissioned by Innovations en concert)

Luciano Berio – excerpts from 34 Duos pour deux violons

Sergei Prokofiev – Sonate pour deux violons, Op.56

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, which last year invested $157 million to bring the arts to Canadians throughout the country.
