Sasktronica de Nicole Lizée + Novarumori + Myriam Bleau
Amy Horvey, Nicole Lizée, P-Love and Ben Reimer will premiere a new piece by Nicole Lizée entitled Sasktronica. The piece will create a Saskatchewan-based retro-futurism where Sask-based relics, sonics, visuals, semiotics, and experiences are assimilated to create a rave. Montreal’s Novarumori will perform Julius Eastman’s work for ten cellos The Holy Presence of Joan of Arc. Julius Eastman was an African- American composer, pianist and vocalist, who was an early augury of postminimalism. His works presaged the later innovations of Arthur Russell and Rhys Chatham.
Myriam Bleau presents Standing Still, a new performance project that continues the artist’s practice with abstract turntablism. The artist uses vinyl recordings that have been modified, engraved or mutilated with a CNC machine to create music and kinetic luminous patterns. Resolutely lo-fi, crude and leaving room for improvisation, this project offers a darker perspective on technological innovation and corporative positivism.
Co-produced with the Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival.
