A co-presentation with No Hay Banda
PART I: NARY A FANG
This project brings together four members of the Montréal new music scene in an all-new ensemble called Nary a Fang. The aim of Nary a Fang is the exploration of gentle gradations of timbre and subtle shifts of sound colours and textures. Come and hear the sonic interplay of medieval organum, alternative tuning systems, microtones, and spectromorphological phenomena.
Katelyn Clark, portative organ
Alexandra Eastley, bassoon
Amy Horvey, microtonal double-bell trumpet
Jennifer Thiessen, viola d’amore
PART II: Elizabeth Lima: Lyrebird Hotel
Lyrebird Hotel is a solo performance by Elizabeth Lima, mixing vocal performance, musical sound design and original texts. The show is set in an allegorical hotel, in which dwells and wanders a lyrebird; the Australian bird known as the master of mimicry. The lyrebird celebrates female artists who have been categorized as “mad, bad or sad”, breaking their isolation, travelling within ethereal environments with humour, joy, intensity, and reverence.
Costumes: Julie Pichette
Nest co-creation and fabrication: Sarah Albu
Staging assistance: Dawne Carlton
Elizabeth Lima is an experimental vocalist, clarinetist, improviser, performer and composer working with an interdisciplinary approach—mixing new music, experimental rock, noise and metal elements with film, theatre and literature. An avid sci-fi and bird enthusiast, she explores the outer limits of her vocal/instrumental techniques and the emotional affect of sound and various modes of listening.
