FLUX FESTIVAL : Les Angles Mortes 4tet + Chloe Jackson-Reynolds Sextett

@ La Sala Rossa, 4848, blvd St Laurent, Montréal

Les Angles Mortes 4tet features Montréal based artists Liberté Anne (composer, performer and conductor), Julie Richard (tubist, composer and cultural worker), Joshua Miller-Clarke (comedian, hip-hop artist and actor) and Jahsun (drummer and founder of the Kalmunity Vibe Collective). This improvising ensemble focuses on collective memory, social justice and black expression.

Drawing inspiration from Henry Threadgill Sextett, Anthony Braxton, and other figures instrumental in the birth of “the new thing,” the Chloe Jackson-Reynolds Sextett is a group of musicians from diverse backgrounds that come together to make something truly unique. Members Chloe Jackson-Reynolds, Elizabeth Tragash, Sadie Koshan, Charles Saumier-Watson, Jonah Ain, and Klee Zubot have expertise ranging from jazz ensembles to orchestral positions, wind bands to choirs, and new music of all kinds. With an ever-flexible instrumentation, the group creates a sound that transcends categorization and is exceptionally one of a kind.

Introduced to each other at McGill University, the group coalesced around a desire to bring music from outside the mainstream to an institution like McGill. Under the direction of Jonathan Lindhorst, the Sextett began to establish a new wave of experimental improvisation amidst their musically conservative surroundings and quickly found success within and outside of academic circles. Now under the direction of Erik Hove, each of the six players continue to explore their musicianship through collaboration, enthusiasm, and perpetual curiosity.
